4.1.5. Check and replacement of the fan of a radiator and the relay
THE GENERAL DATA

Details of the fan of a radiator

1 – a radiator
2 – the additional fan of a radiator
3 – a casing of the additional fan of a radiator

8 – the basic fan of a radiator

Radiator fans join relay which cope block ECM. Block ESM receives the information from the gauge of temperature of a cooling liquid and on the basis of this information gives a signal on inclusion of the fan of a radiator. The additional fan of a radiator joins only at inclusion of a central air of air.

The scheme of check of the main relay of the fan

Resistance between contacts 1 and 3 relays should make 100 Ohm, and between contacts 2 and 4 should be equal to infinity. At giving of pressure of the accumulator to contacts 1 and 3 resistance between contacts 2 and 4 should be equal 0.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the radiator fan does not work, first of all check up integrity of the fuse of the fan.
2. If the safety lock is serviceable, check up, whether the engine of the fan of a radiator works. For this purpose separate an electric socket of the engine of the fan of a radiator and additional wires submit pressure of the accumulator on a socket of the engine of a radiator.
3. A positive wire from the accumulator consistently connect to contacts 2 and 3 electric sockets (it is specified by an arrow). Thus the engine of the fan of a radiator should work on different speeds.
4. If at pressure giving on a socket of the engine of the fan from the accumulator the fan engine does not work, it is necessary to replace it.
5. If the engine of the fan of a radiator is serviceable, but does not work at an engine overheat, disconnect an electric socket from the engine of the fan of a radiator and check up pressure on socket contacts at the hot engine.
6. If pressure on a socket is absent, check up serviceability of the relay of the fan established in the block of the relay in a motor compartment. If the relay does not work, replace it with the new.

The prevention

On models since 1995 it is established two main relays of the fan.


7. If the relay is serviceable, check up serviceability of the gauge of temperature of a cooling liquid.

Replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect an electric socket of the engine of the fan of a radiator.
2. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a casing of the fan to a radiator and remove assemblage of the fan from the car.
3. Unscrew bolts of fastening of the engine of the fan of a radiator to a casing of the fan and remove the fan engine together with the fan.
4. If replacement of the engine of the fan is made, remove from the engine the fan and establish the fan on the new engine.
5. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal.
